The Park University men's and women's soccer teams kept their playoff hopes alive with dominating wins over Providence Christian today in Irwindale, Calif. The men walloped PCC 10-1, while the women were strong in a 4-1 victory.
Women's Soccer - Park Gilbert 4, Providence Christian 1
The win for the women put them in a strong position for their first conference playoff berth in school history. They currently sit in a tie for fifth with Benedictine Mesa, their next opponent. Both teams have 16 points and the only team who can knock one of them out is Soka (12) who pulled an upset win over Simpson this week. Â
Michelle Munoz, Jessa Lyons, Alicia Ypina and Sarai Mizzel scored for the Bucs today who outshot the Keelhaulers 26-7 today.
Men's Soccer – Park Gilbert 10, Providence Christian 1
Fueled by 37 shots, the Bucs won going away 10-1 over the Keelhaulers. Ashton Owen had two more goals to add to his team leading total of seven. The remaining goals were all scored by different Bucs, with Patrik Knudsen and Angel Cervantes getting their first goals of the season.
The Bucs are in a tie with Saint Katherine for the final playoff spot as the men are also attempting to make its first postseason appearance in school history. The Bucs beat Saint Katherine earlier this season 3-0 and their next conference match is with Benedictine Mesa who sits one point behind them in the standings.
The next conference match for both teams is Thursday, Oct. 19, when the Bucs will travel to take on BENU in a critical match for both teams and both schools with playoff implications.
