The Park University Gilbert beach volleyball team's Cal Pac Tournament run came to a close in the semifinals after a 3-1 loss to No. 6 Corban.
The Buccaneers had their hands full with the sixth-ranked Warriors, but proved this season by earning the nation's No. 10 ranking that they can compete with the best of them. The No. 2's (Annika Wallace/Megan Hicks) took a match and the No. 4's (Georgia Romine-Black/Grace Hughes) forced three sets.
The match was clinched for the Warriors on the No. 1's court and the decision was made to truncate the ongoing No. 5's (Jasmine Urban/Jessi Medlin) match. With the win, Corban advanced to the tournament finals and will play Westcliff tomorrow for the right to go to the NAIA tournament.
The Buccaneers made it to the semifinals by avenging yesterday's loss to Bushnell in their first match of the day. They avoided early elimination with a 3-2 victory.
The Buccaneers' No. 2's (Annika Wallace/Megan Hicks) and No. 5's (Jasmine Urban/Jessi Medlin) both flipped the script and pulled off wins today after losses yesterday; the latter win decided the match. The No. 4's (Georgia Romine-Black/Grace Hughes) also pulled off a win- the first finish of the day.
What's Next: Although today's loss ended the Bucs' title hopes, today does not mark the end of their season. They wrap things up next Friday in Tempe, Ariz. against Arizona Christian and NCAA D1 Arizona State. Both matches will take place at Arizona State's new Sun Devil Beach Volleyball Facility in Tempe, Ariz.
