SURPRISE, Ariz. – All good things must come to an end and in the case of the Park University Gilbert baseball team's five-game winning streak, it came to an end with a thud. Behind a 15-hit night, the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit (1-4) got their first win on the season in impressive fashion 16-3 and handed the Buccaneers (7-4) their fourth loss on the year.
"Some days things just don't go your way," said Buccaneers head coach Kelly Stinnett. "We will just flush this one and come back tomorrow ready to get back on the winning track."
The Bucs had trouble finding their offense from the start, they did not reach base until the fifth and did not score until the eighth. Ottawa on the other hand found a way to score in all but one inning. In addition to the 15 hits, Buccaneer pitchers also gifted the Spirit with 16 walks and a hit batsman
At the plate, the Buccaneers managed only six hits on the night with no extra base hits.
The Bucs will try to win the series in the rubber match tomorrow afternoon as Aaron de Groot takes the mound coming off a 10-strikeout performance last Saturday against La Sierra. Game time is 1 p.m. at Surprise Stadium.
