GILBERT, Ariz. -- You couldn't ask for a better start to an inaugural season. Three dual matches, three wins for the Park University Gilbert Beach Volleyball team, as they defeated Benedictine University at Mesa 4-1 at Mesquite Beach this afternoon.

"This is another great win for this team," says Park Gilbert head coach Carlos Flys. "Benedictine is a solid team and a solid program and to beat them is an accomplishment these women should be proud of."

The Buccaneers started out the match by coming from behind to win the first two matches of the day in three sets.  Both the No. 4 (Georgia Romine-Black/Jennifer Lauer) and 5 (Olivia Jackson/Gabby Morales) teams lost set one only to come back win in three sets.

The No. 3 team of Claire Fisher and Kayla Wieserman tried to pull off the same feat as they lost set one handily 21-7, before turning the tables on BenU and winning set 2 21-13.  Fisher and Wieserman held a 9-6 advantage in the third set before the Redhawk team Mikayla Flores and Paige Padilla rallied to tie the set and then it was a back and forth battle all the way 13-all before BenU won the last two points and took the match.

Prior to the end of the battle at No. 3, for the third match in a row, the No. 2 team of Layni Rodriguez and Lexie Taylor clinched the win for the Buccaneers.  Today, it was in a closely contested match they managed to win in straight sets 21-19, 21-19.  

The No. 1 squad of Kylie Thompson and Miranda Bacon closed out the afternoon with a dominant 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) win to up their season record to 2-1.
