PHOENIX, Ariz. -- It was not a good night for the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers pitching staff.  The Bucs staff gave up runs in six of the eight innings played tonight at Apollo High School and five of those innings resulted in double digit runs being scores.  Ultimately, this led to 13-1 loss at the hands of the Firestorm of Arizona Christian who were receiving votes in the latest top 25 poll.

"This is a tough one to take," said Park Gilbert head coach Kelly Stinnett. "We didn't pitch well, we didn't hit well, and we didn't play defense well tonight.  We need to get it fixed and we will get it fixed."

Five Buccaneer pitchers saw the mound tonight, they allowed 13 hits and 13 runs (10 earned).  They walked five batters combined and only struck out three.  At the plate, they only managed six hits on the evening with no walks and 14 strikeouts.  Two of them came off the bat of second baseman Alex Moreno, he also drove in the only Buccaneer run for the game.

The Bucs have a weekend series with Mount Mercy to attempt to right the ship.  The Mustangs are 0-5 with a match up with this same Arizona Christian squad on tap for Friday before meeting the Buccaneers in a three-game set on Saturday and Sunday. The games are slated for Tempe Diablo, but the times have not been finalized.  Weather could also be a factor this weekend as the forecast calls for rain on Saturday.
